Pin-type insulators are the oldest insulators in High-voltage power transmission and distribution lines. Because of its simple manufacture, low cost, easy installation and the ability to reduce the height of the tower (because the insulator is installed upright, the grounding part is below), it is widely used in ordinary areas where the nominal voltage of the three-phase power system is 6~35kV and the frequency does not exceed 100Hz. In the high-voltage overhead power lines in the region, it is used for insulation and support wires.


Pin-type porcelain insulators, also known as needle bottles, are composed of insulating parts and steel feet. Porcelain parts and steel feet (or screw sleeves) are glued together with Portland cement and quartz sand cement of not less than 42.5 grades. The part of steel feet glued into the porcelain parts is pressed with a deep groove to prevent the steel feet from loosening; An elastic pad is placed between the top of the foot and the porcelain piece. The surface of the porcelain pieces is generally covered with brown glaze or white glaze, and the steel feet are hot-dip galvanized.



Pin-type porcelain insulator is a kind of rigid insulator, which is used to insulate and support wires in power transmission and distribution lines. The insulator is rigidly installed on the support structure by a foot fixed in the insulator hole.



According to the structure, the insulators are divided into two types: glue-installed and zinc-sleeved threaded connection. The glue-installed type is that the porcelain piece is directly glued to the cement and the foot is connected, the steel foot is glued into the porcelain piece with a deep groove pressed to prevent the steel foot from loosening, and an elastic pad is placed between the top of the steel foot and the porcelain piece. The zinc sleeve threaded connection type is that the inner hole of the porcelain piece is first installed with a zinc screw sleeve through cement glue, and then the screw sleeve thread is connected to the steel foot. The zinc screw sleeve has a buffering effect and is also easy to replace the porcelain parts. There are also mechanical connections by porcelain threads.



Lines with pin insulators are used for straight rods. Because the insulators do not produce wind deflection, they are generally installed upright on the cross arm. Therefore, the required distance between lines and the height of the poles are smaller than those of lines using suspension insulators, but on both sides When unbalanced tension occurs, the tower is subjected to greater tension. Compared with the porcelain cross-arm, the Pin Insulator has higher strength and can withstand a large bending load, but it is a breakdown structure, and its withstand voltage is also lower than that of the porcelain cross-arm, and there is no disconnection accident of the porcelain cross-arm. It can be rotated to reduce the bending load of the tower.
